Cavin

Cheap, compact, and easy to manufacture, the Cavin-class submersible was designed as a mobile resource extraction platform for the dedicated employees of Europa's mining corporations. It is also an effective entry-level transport option, with excellent storage capacity for its size and onboard deconstruction facilities that are unheard of on other subs in the same price range. The Automatic Cargo Release system allows the cargo pod to eject itself when significant flooding and loss of elevation are detected in the rest of the vessel, preventing the submarine's precious mineral payload from being dragged into the abyss by the doomed crew. Crews aboard the Cavin should be warned that, what they gain in the way of excellent value and cargo capacity, they pay for in mediocre manoeuvrability, poor turret coverage, and a suboptimal electrical grid.

Detachable cargo pod

The cargo pod contains 85% of Cavin's total crate-carrying capacity. Its dedicated battery and manually operable pump also allow it to function as an escape pod if necessary. By default, the Automatic Cargo Release system will cause the cargo pod to jettison itself in order to preserve its cargo if the sub seems to be sinking rapidly into the abyss. Unfortunately, this may have the effect of further sealing the fate of any remaining crewmembers, as the loss of the module can reduce the vessel's overall buoyancy. Crews can choose to disable this feature using the switch labelled 'ACR' inside the cargo pod.

Landing gear

Cavin's role as a base for mining operations means that it often remains parked at mineral-rich sites for weeks at a time. As such, two sturdy 'feet' have been fitted to the vessel's keel, allowing it to rest stably on the seafloor without damaging the hull. During an emergency descent, these landing gear also work to absorb some of the shock caused by sudden impact with the seafloor.
