The things we put on the shelves
Hey Gas Jockeys!
When you're* running a business*, it's easy to think of the products on your **shelves **as just another part of the gameplay. But when we were working on Gas Station Simulator and Roadhouse Simulator, we also had to think about what actually made sense for each place.
A gas station needs things that travellers might want on the road like something to drink, something to eat, something they** forgot to pack**, or perhaps something they didn't even know they needed until they saw it on the shelf.
A Roadhouse works a little differently. People aren't just stopping to grab something and leave. They're there to stay for a while, so the** things you offer become part of the experience**: different **drinks **at the bar, small **snacks **to grab on the go and everything needed to keep the place running.
That's why we didn't want the two games to simply share the same shops with different textures. The products help tell you what kind of place you're standing in and what people come there to do.
At a gas station, you buy what helps you continue your journey. At a Roadhouse, you buy what gives you a reason to stay a little longer. And sometimes, figuring out what belongs on a shelf is just as much part of building a place as designing the building itself.
