Desktop+ is participating in the Steam VR Fest
...or is it?
Desktop+ was invited to participate, so I just went ahead and opted in. The ongoing open nature of development and permanent free price tag makes it a less than ideal target for the promotion via discount or demo (I didn't hold anything back for a special demo or similar). Maybe it'll still be listed somewhere on the fest page.
But on the topic of ongoing developments, I'll take this opportunity to encourage everyone reading this to check out the NewUI Preview branch (or "NewUI + Browser" if you want browser overlays). For many use-cases it's already the superior option and I wouldn't mind getting more feedback and bug reports on it. It will replace the stable branch at some point after all.
Valve recently added branch usage stats and the percentages are fairly low on anything but the default stable branch. It totally makes sense to use that one if it fits your needs, of course.
In case you weren't keeping track of the features added over time, here's a list of things only available in the NewUI branch:
-
Settings/Overlay properties as pin-able floating windows
-
German translation
-
Custom keyboard (adjustable layout up to full-size, with multi-laser input and toggle-able keys)
-
Better overlay management via overlay bar
-
Easier window overlay creation
-
Overlay auto-docking
-
Improved Floating UI (new layout + optional capture fps display)
-
Window overlay auto-restoration
-
Custom laser pointer (doesn't block game input if desired, doesn't block controller poses)
-
Overlay drag settings
-
More advanced overlay profile management
-
Browser overlays
-
Keyboard auto-visibility
I recommend looking at past announcements for a more visual list. Most announcements have short video clips showcasing the new additions.
That's all from me.
