π οΈ In the Works: A New Algorithm for Sharper Workpiece Detail
What we're working on
The workpiece in the simulator is made of millions of tiny volume elements (voxels). The current algorithm that turns them into a visible surface averages the shape between voxels β which rounds off sharp edges and softens fine detail on your cuts.
We are replacing it with a new algorithm that also remembers the exact direction of the tool surface at every point of the cut. Instead of guessing where the edge is, it reconstructs it precisely.
What this means for you
-
Sharp edges stay sharp β corners, steps and chamfers look the way the tool actually cut them
-
Flat faces stay truly flat instead of slightly wavy
-
Small features like grooves and shoulders keep their detail
The image below shows the same cut with the current algorithm and with the new one.
This is still in development β milling is already working, lathe support is in progress. Your existing saved workpieces are safe: they will simply keep using the current algorithm. The new algorithm stores extra surface data directly in the workpiece, so it will apply to newly created workpieces, and each piece remembers which algorithm it was made with.
