**πΌ And as a treat we have an interview with the composer of the music in D&DG, enjoy! **
Can you please introduce yourself and say what you do?
- [p align="start"]Howdy! I'm Cobalt Cosmos, AKA Element27! While there's multiple things that I do--draw, write, and think perhaps too deeply on small details--relevant to this project is that I was the arranger of all the music! (And composer of everything but The Old Tower Inn, by Randommind, which was adapted from use in older builds as the title and elevator theme!) I also assisted with some of the writing. Things like those in Despair pooling around your ankles--you can thank me for that.
[p align="start"]Why did you want to work on music for games?
- [p align="start"]I've loved video games themselves since I can remember (I remember playing on my Dad's Sega Dreamcast when I was three), and I tended to linger on the sound test screens/leave the game on just to listen to the music. Eventually I was able to pick out different songs and even arrangements of a song out of context. It can add so much to a game in so many ways--feeling, memory, and a game's legacy. It stays in people's minds. So, I wanted in! I wanted to create that for others!
[p align="start"]Why did you want to work on Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers specifically?
- [p align="start"]I was a fan that got in early! I saw the game getting traction on YouTube, played the demo, and had a blast. So I joined the server and slid into your DMs (not like that). A while later, once things were more sorted out as to the final result, you approached me to make the whole soundtrack, and...the rest is history.
[p align="start"]What is your favourite game and/or game soundtrack and why?
-
[p align="start"]augh god you're gonna make me decide.Β Well, as a youngin, I rather liked the Kirby series in general. It was a bit easier than most platformers (I am NOT good at using all my fingers for separate stuff under duress), and the music was vivid and memorable, both in cheer and in final boss horror.
-
[p align="start"]I was also really, REALLY into the Danganronpa series for a while. Nowadays I have more mixed feelings on it, but I don't regret my time with it--and the SOUNDTRACK is unilaterally amazing. It's probably the thing that inspired me to compose in the first place, and the reason I picked up FL Studio! (Also Sakura Oogami best girl don't @ me.)
-
[p align="start"]More recently, I cannot recommend Rhythm Doctor enough. It's got a vivid mixture of music on its OST, complementing the simple yet difficult gameplay, the story it tells, and the absolute nonsense the game can pull on you when you least expect.
[p align="start"]Whatβs the best card you've ever had?
- [p align="start"]I'd say my orange card, AKA my permit to get a hunting license--I've yet to actually hunt, but I'd like to someday, believe it or not! My papaw did, so I got a taste for pheasant and venison!
[p align="start"]What surprised you about making the soundtrack?
- [p align="start"]I have learned that things can get very frustratingΒ very quicklyΒ if you don't keep up with the details, and that while I am very proud of the dynamic music in Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers (aka: why the music sounds different for different foes, between encounters, and when you're on low health), it was a LOT to do as my first major music project. I never expected it to be EASY, of course, but it was a bit of a lesson in hard knocks.
[p align="start"]Is there anything else you want to add?
-
[p align="start"]If you liked the cut of my jib and want to support me in addition to the game, there's two things you can do.
-
[p align="start"]One, get the OST! I get a cut of all sales, and it's been updated with the new music from this update! Also, look at the files in the folder--I actually made some production notes, which includes both track commentary and a little more about me.
-
[p align="start"]Two, if you're in the market,Β I'm available!Β If you like the music in this game and want my skills applied in your own project, my commission rates are on my Carrd. I've got a discount for first-time customers, and I'm happy to work at any scale!
